Frequently Asked Questions

How does this CORMP service work?

Based on your existing material we create a draft CORMP aligned to your business operations.  The draft CORMP will integrate where possible the existing controls, systems and processes of your business and identify gaps and implementation issues for your business operations.

The CORMP is then updated as the improvements are made and changes are made to the operations. The CORMP is also maintained and updated by us, so that it is current.

Is the CORMP a standard template?

No our CORMP is based on the quality principles,  We start with your documents and create a CORMP.  Consistent with quality concepts the CORMP has been developed with an appropriate structure for addressing the requirements within the construction industry.

Is there a standard CORMP?
Every business is different and has unique solutions to the meet the business, operating and service challenges. This also includes the strategies to address the identified hazards.
While the basis elements of a management plan a re derived from the principles of quality, quality systems and risk management, each business can choose how to present the plan and document the controls, systems and processes in that plan, reflective of the business and operational requirements.
So while there is a “standard” framework for developing a plan, the approach is up to the business, as the plan will still need to be appropriate for the business. This also needs to consider embedded limits in the operations due physical locations, site characteristics, asset design/configuration, nature of the goods and services, type of tasks involved in the work, construction site expectations, and established standards for the industry, the site, the activity or the task.
Why a construction industry CORMP?

The construction industry top tier and second tier firms operate under various ISO and other safety and project management frameworks.  Accordingly, the firms need to operate to ISO, self-insurance or Commonwealth funding standards.  Given those standards, and how the firms implement those standards, we have developed an approach to complement those systems, controls and processes.

Can I use an "off the shelf" CORMP?
No matter which strategy you adopt, the CORMP for your business must:
– be relevant to your business
– address the Chain of Responsibility Hazards
– identify compliance obligations and standards under the Heavy Vehicle National Law, Safety Laws, Traffic Laws, etc
– implement the relevant controls for the hazards and compliance issues
– monitor and review the controls to make ongoing improvements
Having a documented plan that your business does not actually operate under. will only create more evidence for the Regulator and a prosecution easier.
Having a documented plan that suits your business means that everyday you will be creative evidence to prove that Directors and Senior Manager have been focused on eliminating hazards and, that where this has not been able to be done in a reasonably practical way, actions have been taken to limit the hazard through strategies of isolate, substitute, engineer out.
I am not in the construction industry, can I buy a CORMP?

Given the highly variable nature of the transport task and the multitude of industries that rely on transport, other CORMPs can be developed on a case by case basis.

Does this apply to small suppliers to Construction Projects?
The hazards and laws are the same across the construction industry. Whether under WHS/OHS Laws, Heavy Vehicle National Laws and Traffic Laws.
Having a CORMP that complements your Safety (and Environment) Management System, will allow you to operate to current legal requirements.
Given the introduction of industrial manslaughter laws in a number of jurisdictions, and the Primary Duty under the Heavy Vehicle National Laws, a CORMP can help put in place controls consistent with the legal obligations placed on Directors and Senior Managers,
How long does it take?
We aim for a short turnaround. The more information and documents you provide, the more comprehensive the CORMP will be.
Once you have the CORMP and implementation elements, you will be able to put in place the necessary controls.
We will help monitor progress of implementation and provide updates twice a year as required.
I already have a CORMP, do I need a new one?

This is a business decision, however from time to time it might be best to get an indendent assessment.

Like any good system and control, it can be beneficial to have a refresh as a benchmark.

Our CORMP is designed to work with your safety manager’s business requirements and allow for a tranistion to any new elements that have been idientified.

Can my consultant sign off on their own CORMP?

It is not uncommon for extenal people to undertake the work and then sign off on their work.

For ISO or equivalent standard it should be an independent party – someone not connected to the same business or business associates.

While it is great that the consultant stands behind their work, however they have a conflict of interest in also provding a certifcate that there works meets the nominated standard.

A CORMP prepared by us can still be given an indenpendent signed off by your consultant, as meeting a nominated standard.
